For a good amount of time now, abs and ab exercises have been a hotly debated topic amongst health professionals. The best exercises for your abs seem to change as often as the seasons. We have seen many different ab exercises and ab equipment come and go. The truth is, the best ab exercises are different to each individual. The very first thing you have to do before you can begin to see any improvement in the abdominal region is to lose the extra fat. As soon as the fat subsides, the abs will show. Then and only then will we be able to tell how much work you are going to have to do to get that ever elusive six-pack. In order to begin the fat shredding process you’ll have to shift your focus from ab exercises and workouts to a comprehensive workout plan. One in which you are working out your entire body. The more you use full body workouts, the faster you will lose the fat around your belly. A comprehensive full body workout plan will help boost your bodies metabolism. The more consistent you are with it, the faster your metabolism will speed up. Eventually and over time, your body will be burning fat even when you are not working out. Getting to that point will require you to set some goals, draw up a plan, and get to it. It is not enough to do 100 or even a thousand sit-ups a day. Not only will you fatigue your abs before too long, but this type of action can end up causing you bodily injury. Setup a workout plan that includes aerobics and cardio in a high set or circuit style. When the fat around the midsection begins to disappear, then you can think about finding some exercises to workout your abs. Keep in mind though that many of the gym exercises you use will work your abs just fine without you having to do any sit-ups or crunches at all. The dead lift and squat are two exercises that really work the ab region. Generally speaking, the more resistance you use in your ab workouts, the more defined they will be. High resistance ab workouts would include leg raises, knee raises, or hanging raises and raises with ankle weights. The number one rule to gain a flatter, sexier midsection is fat loss. So eat a healthy balanced diet that includes plenty of fruits and vegetables. The sooner you start this process, the sooner you will begin to see those abs really shape up.

Perfect abs definition top tip: clean up your diet!

Imagine two sorts of landscape. One of them is rolling grass fields, maybe a few trees. The other is a desert. Now the one thing that you can be sure of in the first one is that it is hard to spot the edges of the hills – you see it’s all that grass. Not that there is anything wrong with grass, personally I love the green stuff. But it can hide the definition of the hill. It’s also great for all those small fluffy bunnies to hide in.

Then there is the desert. Nowhere to hide. It’s been stripped bare of all the vegetation. One small rock sticks out a mile.

You can probably see where I am going with this.

You want your perfect abs to be the desert, not the green rolling hills. You want to make the best of what you have already. And it’s there already, it’s just covered by the layer of fat that you really don’t want! What you want is that desert, so that the small muscle that you do have, a bit like the rocks, are revealed. That’s how you get perfect abs definition.

My two sons, one 7 the other 3 years old, have six packs. Seriously! And no, I don’t send them down the gym. My wife and I simply give them the kind of food that is good for them. And they enjoy it too, of course. They even get one or two sweets a day. The reason for their perfect abs is they are naturally active (I keep getting hit on the head with their toy light-sabres to prove the fact!). In fact their bodies are like mini deserts. They have a body fat percentage of less than 10% – and that’s just where you need to get to.

Huh?

You heard me. Ok, let me explain. A desert is hot, right? That’s why there’s no grass. The water is burnt off and the vegetation, which otherwise would hide the natural features, is burnt off too. In terms of my two sons they burn off the fat. But how do they do it? How come the get abs definition when the rest of us ‘oldies’ struggle?

Well like I said, the first thing is they are so active. The second is their metabolic rate is through the roof!

Perfect abs definition relies on a high metabolic rate.

The only way to lose weight is to create a deficit in your calorific levels. Calories are simply units of energy, and you lose weight by putting in less calories than your body wants to consume. Your body consumes calories because it is active, but it also consumes them by simply being alive. But it needs to know what it should store and what it should not store. Carbohydrates are the one thing that the body loves to store and messes up any hope you could have of getting abs definition. It only uses them whilst you are really exercising, otherwise it holds onto them for a rainy day. Conversely proteins and good fats are what it likes to burn. Guess which one makes you look podgy? Yep, the carbs. But here’s the amazing thing. If you clean up your diet so that you get your hormones in check, and balance those proteins, fats and carbs right they you actually increase the temperature at which your metabolic rate burns and thus get abs definition.

And here’s the hottest tip I can give you to get perfect abs. To get it burning the fastest it can, you need to eat MORE and NOT LESS – get that right and your abs definition will be obvious. Yes, there is a limit, and eventually you can eat too much. But look at the flip side, eating a micro diet slows your metabolic rate down, which mean you burn less. You need to eat to lose weight!

A quick equation for you:

Eat the right diet+more active lifestyle = more energy to burn more fat

So eat right, burn the fat and get the abs definition you desire!

Womens Ab Workouts – 3 Tips to Lose Belly Fat

One question that I have contemplated a lot lately is whether women ab workouts can be the same as men. I have looked at several popular exercise programs sponsored by some of the most well known fitness experts.  My opinion is that while they are similar, there are some differences, but the end result is always the same.  Great looking abs on a better looking body.

But ladies, have you looked for effective women’s ab workouts to permanently lose the belly fat that makes you want to hide your body under oversized clothes?  It may be a fact that our body shape may be somewhat genetic, but most of our bodies will respond to a program of diet and exercise to help us achieve the body we want people to look at.  There are three things I believe we need to consider.

The first thing is that all the gizmos and diet supplements that are supposed to work wonders with your body will have little effect without some personal effort.  Great looking abs and a better looking body comes with exercise and a reasonable diet that addresses the whole body.  The abs are an important part of looking good and ab exercises that work should be vigorous and only a part of your overall fitness program.  

The second thing you should do is to eat to increase the metabolism to a higher level.  Yes, I said eat.  What I mean by that is that you should eat several smaller meals during the day to keep your metabolism at a higher rate.  Make your snacks consist of baby carrots, sweet potato slices or similar crunchy veggies.  I have been called a “grazer” because I eat four to six small meals or snacks every day.  Grazers will not feel hungry even though your total caloric intake is less and you will have more energy because your metabolism is higher.  Higher metabolism equals more fat burned by the body resulting in a total weight loss.

The last thing is to find or develop an exercise program that includes ab workouts and cardio exercise as part of the overall package.  Targeting the large muscles and working consistently will caus a significant weight loss and better looking abs will be part of the total look.

I suppose I should address a concern that many women have expressed many times over the years.  The “I don’t want to become muscle-bound” idea.  Believe me, you will not build up a lot of muscles or become muscle bound unless you want to.  The reason that you appear to be building muscles is that the layer of fat that covered your body is reducing and your muscle definition is more apparent.  Exercise will strengthen and define your muscles, not make them bigger.

If you’re trying to get six pack abs or a flat stomach, then you’re undoubtedly doing ab workouts as part of your plan. I’m going to give you 3 things that you must now to get a killer ab workout without getting hurt.

Proper Form

Using the right form when performing your ab exercises is one of the most important things you can focus on. Since you are moving your midsection in different ways, there is a fairly high chance that you may end up putting extra stress on your spine (your lower spine in particular). This extra stress could lead to a longer-term injury, or just cause back pain that you could avoid.

To avoid any injuries, be sure to perform ab workouts that require you to hunch your back instead of arching it. If an exercise does require you to arch your back, figure out a way to do it with your back hunched, or don’t do it at all.

Maintain Control

When you are doing your ab workout, be sure to do exercises that allow you to maintain complete control over the full movement. If you find yourself trying to use momentum or tugging on your head to do a crunch, then you are too fatigued to continue, or you should find a different exercise that you can do under control.

If you start using momentum to do your ab workouts, then you will find that your abs will not progress quickly, and you may end up hurting yourself.

Identify Pain

There are two types of pain (especially when it comes to ab workouts). There is the good burning pain that happens when you’re working your abs hard. Then there’s the bad twinging pain that you’ll experience if you are physically injured.

You SHOULD experience the first type of pain every time you work your abs. If you don’t feel anything in your abdominals, that means you haven’t worked them hard enough and need to focus more on intensity and speed.

If you are experiencing the second type of pain, stop doing the exercise that causes it immediately. This pain can lead to something worse that could put you on the bench for a long time. So change the exercise or just stop for the day and let your body heal itself. Once you can do your ab workouts pain free again, then it’s time to get back at it.

To really get a sweet set of abs, you’ll have to have the right training plan in place and start eating healthy to get results fast. Doing ab workouts alone is actually one of the least effective methods to get six pack abs or a tight stomach fast.

A flat stomach or a six pack is not out of reach, but you’ve got to do it the right way!
